The price of liberty has always been high. It has long been this nation's principle that the cost is worth bearing. It is essential that we hold true to this principle, even in times of crisis. Hateful speech is permissible, hateful religions are permissible, hateful thoughts are permissible. It may seem hypocritical to allow a religion while simultaneously banning its holy book, but the law sees no contradiction. We may ban a specific work that constitutes an act of terror, but nothing in our Constitution allows for the outlawing of an ideology. The court’s previous ruling in Brandenburg v. Ohio is confirmed.
