Maceo Steel is a substance that was produced by the Different Maceo Olrich, and sold by Ultracorps. It is the strongest substance known to man. It is virtually indestructible using conventional methods. The substance can support virtually limitless weight and pressure. Its use was essential in building the infrastructure of the Metro Areas, allowing for water, sanitation, and heating services. Maceo Steel has a unique molecular structure. Maceo Olrich had the ability to separate carbon atoms from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. These atoms were then arranged into structures made of contiguously chemically bonded carbon atoms. Since the structures were essentially one large molecule, they were virtually indestructible. Maceo was hired by Ultracorps in 1990, though Maceo steel was not introduced until 1992. Over the next ten years, Maceo Steel was used in massive construction projects around the Metro Areas. The Plagues destroyed the iron, steel, and plastic that had been used to create water and sewer systems. Maceo Steel pipes were laid to provide infrastructure to the Metro Areas. Maceo Steel was also intergrated into many construction projects. The Plagues, and the metals they destroyed, made it difficult to build the foundations necessary to build large, multi-story structures. Maceo Steel beams made it possible to build foundations for new construction. Maceo and Ultracorps also created many structures around the nation that were made almost entirely out of Maceo Steel. In 1992, Ultracorps created The Slug system train network that allowed for transportation within the Metro Areas. These elevated-trains relied on Maceo Steel supports to hold up tracks that were also made up of Maceo Steel. This system became a fixture in all of the Metro Areas except for the Houston MA. In 1996 the Hoover System was developed by Ultracorps. This involved laying series of much wider Maceo Steel piping around the Metro Areas. These pipes were filled with a strong vacuum, designed to inhale household waste. This greatly improved sanitation services to the Metro Areas. Maceo continued to manufacture Maceo Steel for Ultracorps until he died of a heart-attack in 2003. Ultracorps maintains a stockpile of pipes, beams, and various other structures, made of Maceo Steel, which they continue to utilize in construction projects.
