Stress Testing
Stress Testing refers to a series of exams and tests Different individuals may be subjected to by Section 26. A small percentage of individuals (1%-3%) who test positive as both a carrier and active Different on the GIS do not experience a Differentiation by the age of 17. These individuals are then subjected to a series of energy sources, chemicals, and stressful situations in order to Differentiate. Some of the possible stimuli include: electrical, solar, combustion, methane, acceleration, dehydration, and hallucinogens.
Stress Testing is effective on approximately 50% of individuals who have not Differentiated by age 17. Those who do not manifest, even after Stress Testing, are free to live in the general populace. They are still required to subject themselves to examination by Section 26 monthly. Some argue against the release of those individuals on the basis that they still are Differents, they just have not found the required source or level of stimuli in order to Differentiate.
Stress Testing is widely blamed for causing Danny Libdo to Differentiate, which caused an explosion that virtually destroyed the Minneapolis Metro Area. As a result of the incident, safety precautions were greatly increased for all individuals being evaluated by Section 26, and as of July 2008, all Stress Testing is now preformed in secure facilities located a safe distance from populated areas.
