Biography
David was born in Seattle Washington in 1966. David was still living in Seattle in 1983, when the rogue Soviet General Nicholas Gorvich assumed control of a portion of the Soviet nuclear arsenal and launched missiles at the cities of San Francisco, Seattle, and Portland.
Portland and San Francisco were decimated by the attack; Seattle was largely spared, thanks to David. When the nuclear bomb was detonated David's Differentiation activated and his absorbed the energy of the explosion, sparing the city while simultaneously providing the energy for David's abilities. By some unknown mechanism, David’s body is able to store nuclear energy. David is able to harness that energy and turn it into physical force.
After saving the city, he continued to work to help Seattle. He helped create the Seattle Metro Area in 1985, performing much of the needed construction himself. David’s body was able to generate force in excess of a hundred tons, making him able to clear debris and move earth. David worked in construction, for Ultracorps, through the 80’s and 90’s.
During that time, David began operating as a vigilante. He spent time fighting the organized crime that had developed in the Seattle Metro Area. David ceased his activities following the passage of the Different Acts of 1996 and the outlawing of vigilantism by Differents.
In the mid-2000’s David’s strength had been noticeably diminished. David retired from his position at Ultracorps in 2007. He still makes occasional public speaking appearances.
Differentiation
David is a Physically Enhanced Different who is externally powered. Upon exposure to the nuclear blast in 1983, David’s body became super strong. At his peak, David was able to exert in excess of 100 tons of force. David is considered to be the second strongest Physically Enhanced Different who ever lived, only BlueHawk is considered to have been stronger.
Since the blast, David’s strength has slowly but steadily diminished. By 1993, he was approximately 50% of his maximum strength. By 2003, he was down to 25% and he is now believed to be at ~10% of his peak strength.
All attempts to “recharge” David by exposing him to energy sources both nuclear and non-nuclear have proven fruitless. It is possible that David’s body was only able to absorbed the energy once, or it may be that his body cannot absorb anything less than a certain megaton yield of nuclear blast. David has not been exposed to same level nuclear blast as the initial bomb because if David did not absorb the blast, it would be fatal.
